The beautiful natural environment of Byron Bay, its fabulous
beaches and glorious weather mean that your Schoolies
experience will be all you dream of...
Think of lying on the pure white sand, diving through the aquamarine waves and surfing the famous breaks. Or imagine sitting with your friends in a cool café watching the colourful array of passing people and enjoying the original, fresh cuisine of local produce. Byron has a huge range of cafés and eateries for you to choose from, including lots of takeaway outlets.
Main Beach and Clarkes Beach, which stretch around the Bay from the Beach Hotel to the headland, offer safe swimming, surfing, body-boarding and snorkelling. Learn to surf in three hours, or snorkel on the wreck just offshore.
Hire a kayak and play with the dolphins, or take a walk to the lighthouse to admire the wonderful views across the Bay to Mt Warning and beyond, and south to Broken Head. Remember to wear a hat and apply plenty of sunscreen if you spend any time in the sun.
Take a day trip to Nimbin, or to the fabulous market in Bangalow. Have your hair braided with beads, get a washable tattoo (or a real one!) or an elegant piercing. For information on all this, and much more, visit the Byron Visitor Centre behind the bus stop in the centre of town.
Byron has long been a holiday destination, which means that the services and amenities available to visitors are just what you need: nightlife, cafés and restaurants, surf shops and clothing
distributors offering good deals for young people.
The people of Byron want you to enjoy your Schoolies vacation. Remember however, that this is where they live. Respect the rules of your accommodation establishment, put all your rubbish in bins, and keep noise to a minimum. Courtesy and respect for each other and the locals will ensure that you really enjoy your holiday.
